Angel Ramiro Sanchez was born on February 21, 1974, in Maracaibo Venezuela.
Ramiro began his career as an artist at the age of 14 when he became the apprentice of the realist painter, Abdon J. Romero, an eminent specialist in murals for churches and public buildings.
In 1993 a study grant from Mgr. Gustavo Ocando Yamarte, Founder of the Niños Cantores, enabled him to travel to Florence, Italy, where he enrolled in the “Accademia di Belle Arti” During the four years he studied full time at the Accademia, receiving his diploma magna cum laude Ramiro also attended drawing and painting sessions at the Florence Academy of Art, a renowned realist school founded by painter Daniel Graves. Ramiro was appointed Senior Painting Instructor at the Florence Academy of Art in 1997 and in 2001, he was appointed the Director of advanced painting.Ramiro paints only from life, searching for accuracy beyond physical appearance to conveythe beauty of both the body as well as the soul.
His portraits, landscapes, and sacred worksare in many private collections in Europe and in the United States, and in public collections, including The Fondazione Stelline, Milan; The Fremantle Foundation for Foreign Artists in Tuscany at Villa Peyron, Florence, and The Muscarelle Museum of Art at The College of William& Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Since 2017, Ramiro has created in drawings, paintings in oil on canvas, cartoons in eggtempera, and Venetian glass tiles a cycle of 34 panels for Saint Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg, VA entitled “Saints of the Americas in Worship Around the Altar”. The result is an extraordinary masterpiece of sacred art.
Ramiro shares his life and passion for art with his wife, the artist, Melissa Franklin-Sanchez and their two children, Rafael and Iris.
